Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Trainee Technical Consultant, to join the BM TRADA Timber team, based in High Wycombe. The role would be suited to a graduate / construction enthusiast / timber professional starting or developing their career - ideally with a qualification in a building or construction related discipline or proven skills / experience / enthusiasm.

 

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with one of the leading timber consultancies in the UK. You will be working within a highly respected team covering the UK with a great variety of work. Projects ranging from site inspections, laboratory investigations, technical advice to clients and defect diagnosis of all things timber. 

 

Responsibilities

  • To undertake timber investigations, laboratory work, site inspection work and report on results 
  • Gather relevant site based evidence from investigative work onsite and from documentation and background information provided
  • Offering technical advice and responding to enquiries, by phone and in person
  • Building and maintaining relationships with project engineers and architects 
  • Provide independent, impartial advice in disputes
  • Assist the marketing and publications department with input for technical information documents
  • Assess quality standards and advise on improvements   
  • Ensuring that equipment (laboratory or tools) is maintained to ensure safety and quality is not compromised
  • Follow the relevant procedures where activities are controlled by the Quality Management System

Skills / Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience in practical / technical subjects relating to the timber industry or construction (eg Sustainability, Building Surveying, Heritage, Infrastructure)
  • Preference for a degree qualified individual or qualification in a relevant discipline
  • This job would possibly suit either a Graduate, Wood Scientist, Timber Enthusiast, Building Surveyor, Structural Engineer looking to start or develop their career
  • Comfortable with working at heights
  • Demonstrates and / or willingness to learn an understanding of BS and EU standards
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • An eye for detail and be able to communicate thoughts and ideas
  • Excellent time management skills, and be able to manage your own diary
  • Current and Valid Driving License 
  • Ideally based in or near High Wycombe, Aylesbury, Oxford, Reading, Maidenhead
  • Full trainng will be provided from a supportive and engaging team
