Overview

Warringtonfire, part of Element, has an opportunity for a Product Assessor to join our growing team. This is a great opportunity to work with one of the fastest growing organisations within the Testing, Inspection & Certification sector. Warringtonfire exists to help make certain that the materials, products and processes that we test, inspect and certify for our customers are always safe, quality, compliant and fit for purpose. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist technical expertise within the Technical Department in order to be able support quotations, certification activities, technical assessments, reverse engineered test programmes and/or support to testing divisions to meet the needs of customers and provide value-added level of knowledge and judgement
  • To provide an appropriate level of income through the production of technical documentation with the required quality and content. For example, this may be EXAP reports, classification reports or assessments based upon fire resistance test evidence, following the principles from the PFPF Guide. To be competent, based upon experience relevant to your agreed product areas to be at level 3 of the PFPF Guide.
  • To provide sound technical advice to clients and members of the Certification and Testing department and to work efficiently within the required timescales.
  • Responding to customer queries in an accurate, professional and timely manner.
  • To pursue new markets, new clients and new services in conjunction with Senior Management within the department, to expand the Warringtonfire business in line with strategic business development plan.
  • Working knowledge of relevant National, European and International Test, EXAP and Classification Standards relevant to your agreed product areas. Ensure you are familiar with all relevant legislation in the Marine and Construction Product Regulation documents, as applicable.
  • Conducting Technical audits, preparing Technical files, Certificates of Conformity and ETA’s. Undertaking site surveys to evaluate the condition and/or the performance of specific installations of products or systems within your competence.
  • Ability to judge the suitability and relevance of data provided in order to advise clients based upon their needs and applications e.g. reverse engineering a test programme based upon relevant DIAP and EXAP rules.
  • Plan test programmes in liaison with clients and the relevant testing department.
  • Represent the company, as appropriate, on nominated standards, sector groups and trade association committees. Liaise with relevant staff in establishing Warringtonfire viewpoint and report back on discussions.
  • Assist with the training of Certification and Testing departments team members as appropriate. Proactively mentor and develop junior technical team members.
  • Co-ordinate with other technical experts within Warringtonfire in order to apply knowledge and judgement in a rounded approach
  • Competent in defining the relevant project scope and autonomy for own work schedule, priorities and progress against requirements including commercial responsibilities (i.e. appropriate quoting, invoicing and timely delivery)
  • Assisting in the development of the department – positively contribute ideas and provide input into new initiatives, processes and QMS improvements etc.
  • Assisting in Warringtonfire or Element group projects where required, including the potential for overseas European and international travel.
  • Witness of tests at external laboratories (independent or product manufacturer owned) in accordance with current procedures, including reporting of witness visit and review of test report.
  • To ensure all training and competency records are kept up to date, in line with company procedures.

 

Skills / Qualifications

  • Project management experience
  • Keen interest in all aspects of fire safety, able to conduct own research into connected areas of fire safety
  • Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Experience of working with advanced features of Microsoft office package (eg formulas, tables, advanced formatting, VBA, macros) is preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good written English
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle a varied workload in a busy environment
  • High level of customer service and organisational skills.
