Element has an opportunity for an Lab Assistant to join our rapidly expanding team in Edmonton for an assignment that will run until the end of 2024. As a member of the operations team in one of the various laboratories across Element, the Associate Test Technician position performs a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under direct supervision.  The technician positions must be proficient in a number of core business skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures.

• Collect client samples according to the LIMS generated batch sheet and analyze, maintaining high standards of analytical quality.
• Perform analysis as documented in the test method
• Interpret and validate results and data.
• Prepare reagents and standards.
• Perform regular equipment maintenance and advise team leader when equipment is not functioning.
• Input results into LIMS.
• Clean glassware as specified in the test method.
• Maintain equipment maintenance log and reagent preparation log.
• Request supplies and consumables in advance of requirement by recording needed items in order book.
• Train new staff in test methods
• Follow the Quality System as documented in the Quality Manual.
• General duties as directed by the team leader or operations manager

• Working knowledge of laboratory safety
• HS diploma or GED certificate preferred. College or vocational school coursework welcomed
• 0-2 years’ experience in a testing related field
• Basic understanding of testing concepts
• Possess computer skills. 
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry a plus

Physical Demands:

• Frequency of required physical force: Minimum (moderate).
• Lifting requirements: lifting <50 lbs. often and > 50 lbs. on occasion
• Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time
• Ability to lift 50+lbs periodically
