Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Microbiologist to join our growing team.

 

The microbiologist in a water and food ISO 17025 laboratory plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and quality of food and water products through rigorous microbiological testing and analysis. This position involves applying advanced microbiological techniques and adhering to ISO 17025 standards to produce accurate and reliable results.


This postion will be based in Qatar.

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiological testing on food and water samples, including but not limited to coliforms, pathogens, and spoilage organisms
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory cultures and quality control organisms
  • Follow ISO/IEC 17025 standards and protocols to ensure accurate and reliable test results
  • Conduct method validations and verifications as required
  • Analyze and interpret test results, preparing detailed reports and documentation
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, ensuring they are calibrated and functioning properly
  • Collaborate with other team members to troubleshoot and resolve any testing issues
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations and maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment
  • Stay updated with the latest industry standards, regulations, and microbiological techniques
  • Participate in internal and external audits and assist in the implementation of corrective actions as needed
  • Manage the Calibration of Glass wares and the instruments
  • Maintain the good laboratory housekeeping and ensure Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) standard are adhered
  • Perform Qualitative and quantitative Laboratory tests and analysis of other substances as per standard method while maintaining accurate reports for the same
  • Conduct all activities as per the relevant technical standards & ISO 17025 Standard
  • Implementing and adhering to quality control protocols to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results

Skills / Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in microbiology, biology, biochemistry, or a related field is usually required
  • Additional certifications related to laboratory practices, food safety, or quality management (e.g., ISO 17025 training) can be beneficial
  • Proficiency in microbiological techniques (e.g., culturing, isolation, identification of microorganisms)
  • Familiarity with analytical techniques (e.g., PCR, ELISA)
  • Experience with laboratory equipment and instrumentation
  • Understanding of ISO 17025 standards and quality management systems
  • Ability to develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Skills in manging internal/external audits and conducting proficiency testing
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and interpretation of data
  • Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
  • Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot laboratory issues and optimize procedures
  • Ability to design experiments and interpret results effectively
  • Meticulous approach to conducting experiments and recording results to ensure accuracy and reliability
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and presenting findings
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with clients
  • Familiarity with relevant food and water safety regulations and standards (e.g., MoPH, ASHGHAL etc)
  • Prior experience working in an ISO 17025 microbiology laboratory, preferably in a food or water testing environment
  • Experience with quality control and assurance processes
  • Participation in workshops, seminars, or conferences related to microbiology, food safety, or laboratory practices
