Overview

Element Materials Technology has an opportunity for a Quality Manager to join our growing team. This is a great opportunity to develop your career within a Global TIC business.

 

Provides leadership for quality at divisional as well as local level in Denmark and is responsible for devising and executing quality strategy for the Element Aerospace & Defense Business Unit (BU), in consultation with the Quality Director and Metrology & Calibration Division Director.

 

Ensures the robust implementation of the QMS in alignment with the BU strategy and facilitates continued improvement at both the local and divisional level. The role will also provide governance at local level to the Danish laboratories with support from the local quality teams.  Ensures the full and effective implementation of the eQMS in the Division and reports regularly on quality metric.  Reports to the Director Quality, Aerospace & Defence and manages the quality managers in the division. Taking responsibility for the overall Quality function in the Division and its processes governing local and divisional procedures as well as stakeholders, with direct oversight of the quality process in Denmark.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a team of five-six quality professionals across the Metrology & Calibration Division Europe
  • Implement and develop the QMS to ensure that the necessary controls are in place to govern a complex mix of testing, certification, calibration and inspection activities (as appropriate)
  • Build strong relationships within the Division and across Divisions within the Business Unit to ensure continued fulfilment of customer expectations and alignment with company priorities to drive best practice
  • Work with Sales to build relationships with customers
  • Set Division wide quality priorities and key objectives to reduce the cost of poor quality and improve compliance to regulations and standards                                                                                          
  • Ensure training is effective and that the locations operate within the required regulatory guidelines through the review of processes and procedures
  • Ensure method audits, system audits, and proficiency testing regimes are fit for purpose and are effectively implemented
  • Ensure NPS feedback from the Division is responded to/updated and/or investigated in a timely matter
  • Provide quality leadership, training, support and coaching as required and ensure succession plans are in place for quality colleagues
  • Identification and implementation of improvement initiatives
  • Work with operational colleagues to proactively implement FMEA, 8D, RCCA and SQDC and other methodologies based on identified trends
  • Influence and build strong working relationships within the Division/across Divisions and with the functions in support of quality
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and agility with the management of multiple complex projects simultaneously with support from peers
  • Involvement with quality related developments and organisational standards body review committees (e.g. ASTM, BSI, ISO, etc.)               
  • Support with due diligence around acquisition targets and support the integration of successful acquisitions from a quality perspectives

Authority:

 

  • Approval of QMS documentation and audit plans
  • Suspend work processes or services if at risk of impacting quality performance
  • Approve or Cancel authorization of technicians, where skillset or behaviors impacts quality performance
  • Approve supplier quality capabilities

Communication:

  • Skilled communicator of ideas, quality concepts and industry best practice to stakeholders at all levels of the business
  • Comfortable making presentations on quality topics to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to tailor presentations to differing audiences to ensure the intended message is understood 
  • Exchanges quality information and knowledge with peers and senior colleagues across the business

Leadership:

  • Aligns resources to ensure the effective implementation of the QMS in the Division and is accountable for quality in the Division
  • Provides leadership to the quality team within the Division and across Divisions as required
  • Substantial impact in the Division for the management and maintenance of quality and for driving quality improvement
  • Committed to leading by example, engaging with colleagues to motivate and lead
  • Makes informed judgements in the Division in support of quality related matters, consulting with colleagues as required
  • Ability to influence others as quality decisions have a major impact on the strategic direction, investment decisions and success of the Division

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Member of relevant professional body and degree qualified in a relevant subject
  • Member of the Chartered Quality Institute or equivalent with active involvement in the quality field
  • BSc/BEng (or equivalent) science, engineering and experience in the quality discipline with a minimum of 5-10 years experience in quality management
  • Experience of working with Accreditation and Regulatory Bodies, customers and Primes as applicable
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 17025 and ISO 9001
  • Experience with LEAN/6Sigma practices and particularly in participating in complex investigations, determining root causes, developing sustainable corrective and preventive action plans (8D program) and ensuring their effectiveness
