Overview

As a key member of the leadership team based at Hitchin we are looking to recruit a Department Manager/Technica this role is primarily responsible for the delivery of technical excellence and customer service. Working closely with operational management, laboratory staff, technical specialists, sales and commercial functions, this role will provide overarching technical leadership and direction.

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Department Manager – Technical will include:

 

 

  • Supporting flow down from the global sector technical group of technical development and best practice initiatives
  • Providing direction to technical expertise and project management teams
  • Providing technical sign off and review of internal documentation prior to release as required
  • Ensuring a consistent application of policies, process, procedures, standards and company values
  • Supporting the laboratory project team on any technical queries and non-standard queries
  • Providing input and attendance at appropriate leadership meetings as required
  • Raising the standard of quality performance across the technical and project management teams
  • Working closely with commercial teams to ensure proposals are completed within set timescales
  • Driving system and process improvements
  • Responsible for scheduling and financial forecasting for the department
  • Development of staff within the department
  • Working closely with clients to solve challenging or complex technical issues.

Exchanging technical information and knowledge with professional level peers, senior colleagues and specialists across the Technical Leadership Network

Skills / Qualifications

  • Proven ability to develop highly innovative solutions with a substantial track record of significant technology contributions.
  • Would normally have initiated, defined and led several technical capability development or Best Practice projects within the last five years.
  • Capable of performing complex tasks without guidance or supervision within a pre-defined framework
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage work within the defined area of responsibility.
  • Ability to review performance, identify problems and contribute to their solution.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
