Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Metallurgical Engineer whose primary responsibility is to support the Metallurgy team in running day to day laboratory affairs. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for supporting the metallurgy department in performing lab-based testing along with site and field testing.

 

This position will be based in Abudhabi, United Arab Emirates.

 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure work compliance to ISO 17025 requirements
  • Perform analysis including testing, measurements, examinations on various polymers, coated components and generate evaluation reports with technical findings
  • Perform in-situ metallography, associated site testing as well as undertake site visits/inspections/NDT associated with the requirements of the work
  • Support in performing routine mechanical tests for material properties evaluation and weld procedure specification qualification as per various international standards (ASME, API, AWS and BS) where the tests would typically include tensile test, Impact test, Nick-Break test, Bend Test, Macro examination, Hardness Surveys, CTOD and others
  • Coordinate with the clients & third-party witness as required for the testing
  • Ensure subcontracted works are coordinated for timely completion
  • Manage the tasks in discussion with the Senior Team members in order to complete the work within the committed schedules
  • Be willing to assist in other activities from time to time that may be requested by the supervisor and/or department manager to support the Company's requirements

Skills / Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in Metallurgy or related discipline
  • Minimum 4 years of specific experience working in a laboratory in the field of coatings and metallurgical testing
  • Excellent technical report writing skills
  • Good analytical skills and proficient in using MS office
  • Experience in working with various international standards and LIMS would be beneficial
  • Ability to customize the set-up for tests based on the requirements and work under the accreditation requirements
  • Qualification to ASNT NDT level II or equivalent in MPI, DPT, UT would be advantageous
  • Knowledge and experience of safe operation of metallurgical testing equipment and operating in lab and / or industrial environment
  • Excellent organisational and team leading skills
  • Very good written and oral communication skills in English
  • Experience in a busy laboratory is beneficial
  • Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry concepts is a plus
  • Capable of working on well-defined issues and conducting standard or routine tests with minimal guidance or supervision
  • Able to decide on and implement appropriate testing methods and protocols
  • Skilled in managing job priorities and work time in accordance with targets and goals set by a supervisor
  • Relevant work experience impacts day-to-day technical decisions, ensuring timely delivery of laboratory testing services and customer support
  • Demonstrates the ability to apply a variety of testing techniques rationally and practically to address issues and develop solutions
