Overview

Element has an opportunity for an Ergonomist who will enjoy working in a close-knit team at our FIRA International business in Stevenage, located 20 minutes from central London by train. FIRA International is one of the world’s leading furniture technology centres. Our ergonomics department carries out a wide variety of work in a friendly environment. Responsibilities

FIRA International's Ergonomics team works with designers, manufacturers and end users in developing and assessing products including furniture, computer accessories, train and airplane interiors. We lead and contribute to initiatives that promote wellbeing in workplaces and schools and to help, develop European and international furniture and ergonomics standards. 

 

You will be tasked to:

  • Assess products against dimensional and ergonomic standards
  • Undertake product assessments and user trials based on existing procedures
  • Risk assess products 
  • Carry out workstation / workplace risk assessments
  • Consult on projects using specialist subject matter expertise 
  • Provide ergonomic advice to furniture designers
  • Contribute to British and European Furniture Standards development
  • Liaise and work with other FIRA International colleagues regarding ergonomic activity

Skills / Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level in Human Factors / Ergonomics or a related field 
  • Organise and prioritise work and meet tight deadlines
  • Work effectively as a team member and independently
  • Highly motivated and able to use initiative
  • Problem solving and able to challenge the status quo 
  • Commercially aware
  • Have strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Be confident when dealing with people 
  • Good computer skills able to use MS Office products (Word, Excel, Access)
  • CAD skills a bonus but not essential
  • Practical skills for assembly of furniture 
  • Graduate would also be considered
