Overview

Element is hiring a Senior Payroll Specialist in our Toronto Building Science Materials Testing location! This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of our amazing locations in the Greater Toronto area, lead payroll processing and grow your career in the Testing Inspection and Certification (TIC) industry. 

 

As the Senior Payroll Specialist, you will ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll, ensure compliance with each Canadian Province and all related jurisdictional entities. This is an individual contributor position and requires an in-depth knowledge of payroll procedures associated with supporting Canadian payroll functions, tax compliance regulations, accounting practices, and audit requirements.  

 

This position is hybrid and located in our Toronto Lab - 3 days a week. 

Responsibilities

  • Remain current on all jurisdictional laws influencing payroll matters.
  • Support finance reporting requirements, create ad-hoc reporting as needed.
  • Process, monitor, manage and reconcile payroll at the employer/employee pay group level across all pay groups in Canada.
  • Support and manage the Quarter and Year end functions across all pay groups for Canada.
  • Support and maintain the payroll “playbook” for payroll accountabilities as it pertains to Canada Payroll processing.
  • Prepare Record of Employments as needed.
  • Address tax inquiries with employees and jurisdictional agencies.
  • Knowledgeable on US payroll practices to support processing of US based pay groups.
  • Support month end procedures regarding all payroll control reconciliations partnering with the Finance team.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Working Experience: 3+ years of experience leading payroll processing in a corporate environment, GAAP knowledge is important
  • Certifications: must have an accredited Payroll Certification; PCP, PLP, CPM, CPP
  • We are fast-paced Environment: you must thrive multitasking, meeting tight deadlines, solving problems
  • This is Payroll: you must have a strong attention to detail and accuracy and highly organized with excellent follow-up skills
  • Communication: you must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Technology: proficient in Microsoft Office is required and Ceridian payroll expertise highly preferred
  • Language: must be proficient in both French and English
  • Location: must be able to commute into our Toronto area office 3 days a week 
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting would be nice but not required
