Overview

Element Toronto is currently hiring for a Manager of Compendial Testing and Stability for our growing team in Mississauga. This Manager is responsible to provide leadership in the daily operations of the laboratory, screening and responding to client inquiries, prepare technical quotations, proposals and reports using the entire range of analytical tools. Responsible to plan, organize and manage the resources to provide results and customer service to our clients. Ensures the workflow and processes in the laboratories are efficient and well organized to achieve performance.

Responsibilities

  • Health and Safety – Ensure that each staff member has the necessary training to safely perform their jobs, and that these activities comply with internal policies as well as MOL and WHIMIS standards. Inspect the workplace regularly, coach staff on safety issues and make suggestions to senior management regarding training needs, engineering controls, etc. All incidents, including near misses must be reported.
  • Technical Quality of Services – Responsible to verify that all analytical testing and development project results are scientifically valid and meet professional standards; project and test methodologies must correspond to original client requests and deliverables defined in Quotations. Stay current with developments in instrumentation and technology that would allow for provision of new or enhanced services.
  • Laboratory Management – This lab offers analytical testing services, including premium rush service with aggressive timelines, as well as materials development projects. When new jobs are awarded, they must be reviewed to verify that the deliverables can be met and assigned to qualified individuals as soon as possible. The necessary resources must be aligned including equipment, reagents, and assigning trained individuals to support each task. If delays to target delivery arise, clients must be notified as soon as possible and a plan developed to rectify the situation.
  • Regulatory Compliance – Projects must be performed according to regulatory guidelines pertinent to the application e.g. FDA, Health Canada, SCC and comply with Element Quality Systems and Procedures. Deviations from regulatory guidelines (e.g. ASTM/ USP / EP methods) must be approved by clients in writing prior to beginning experimental work. Work with QA to complete OOS investigations in a timely way. Ensure that electronic data and master files are archived appropriately as completed and approved.
  • Equipment Qualification – Ensure that instrument validations are current, and performance verifications are planned so on-going work is not affected. Planned non-conformances due to scheduling of qualifications must be avoided wherever possible. Major changes to instruments require change control and approval from QA.
  • Quotation Preparation and Client Inquiries – Ensure that client calls and inquiries are responded to within 24 hours. Communications, verbal and written must be always handled professionally. Assist CustomerCare / Sales with client questions and inquires, screen opportunities to ensure that they are followed up with the appropriate level of attention

Skills / Qualifications

  • Five to ten years experience in a testing laboratory
  • 2-5 years experience managing a team
  • Technical leadership is vital to the production and operation of assigned tests and to the overall operation of the entire lab
  • Must possess a strong ability to communicate (written and oral) effectively with clients and colleagues with great attention to detail and timing of results
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to effectively establish and maintain two-way communications to understand the needs and concerns of the laboratory
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety requirements for a materials lab environment
  • Ability to work flexible hours as required to meet client deadlines; this may include weekend and evening shifts outside of normal business hours
