Overview

Element has a current opening for a Chemist III to join our growing team in Mississauga. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates the chemical and physical properties of various organic and/or inorganic substances
  • Utilizes established methods and procedures and laboratory equipment to perform analytical testing of substances
  • May conduct method validation and Lead method development, interprets, and develops conclusions using the data obtained
  • May draft method validation, transfer, or qualification protocols.
  • Interprets and develops conclusions using the data obtained.
  • Conducts investigations for failures/deviations/out of spec results.
  • Drafts client reports and consults on quotes.
  • May draft new SOPs or revise existing SOPs
  • May assume a team lead role for the work group by delegating work to more junior colleagues.
  • Works with direct manager and colleagues, occasionally taking direction from manager and more senior colleagues as needed.
  • Communicates status of work and collaborates with team.
  • Regularly trains and mentors more junior colleagues through on-the-job coaching.
  • Handles moderately complex matters and problems autonomously, both routine and non-routine in nature.
  • Applies base skills to a variety of processes and work streams across longer and more complex product and testing life cycles.
  • Solid understanding of various compounds, reagents and solutions.
  • Ability to conduct analysis through approximately 50%-75% methods/techniques/equipment available in the department.
  • Serves as an SME in multiple areas for the lab

Skills / Qualifications

  • Excellent time management and prioritization
  • Intermediate reading, writing, and math skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to plan daily work and arrange activities to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to provide clear instruction to others while delegating and coaching.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Good presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex topics to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Basic understanding of cost control measures and how 5S and SQDC principals impact lab flow
  • Ability to write technical reports with minimal guidance.
  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in analytical chemistry or life sciences (microbiology, etc.)
  • 3-6 years relevant experience with BS Degree / 2-5 years with Master's Degree or PhD

Physical Requirements: 

  • Lifting up to 40 pounds on occasion
  • Walking throughout the day
  • Ability to climb to elevated locations within the site (Approximately 15 feet)
  • Ability to read and write
