Overview

The Production Lead – X-Ray Laboratory is responsible for managing day-to-day operations within the X-ray lab, ensuring timely and high-quality testing aligned with safety, compliance, and client requirements. This role provides leadership to the technical team, drives continuous improvement initiatives, ensures adherence to regulatory standards, and oversees resource planning and operational performance.

Responsibilities

 Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead and supervise the laboratory production team to ensure efficient test execution and staff engagement.
  • Plan and allocate resources and shifts to meet operational demands and turnaround targets.
  • Ensure all staff receive technical training per Element standards and maintain accurate training records.
  • Drive employee development through coaching, training plans, and regular performance reviews.
  • Facilitate daily SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) meetings to align the team on performance targets and resolve operational issues.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Promote a strong safety culture with a focus on Zero Harm within the X-ray lab environment.
  • Ensure compliance with company HSE policies, risk assessments, and relevant safety regulations.
  • Lead incident investigations, implement corrective actions, and champion proactive safety initiatives.
  • Conduct regular safety briefings and ensure all team members are actively involved in safety programs and reviews.

Quality & Compliance

  • Support investigations and resolution of non-conformities through root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Technical teams during audits and to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee the timely calibration of lab equipment and maintain comprehensive calibration records.
  • Author, review, and approve technical procedures and work instructions to ensure consistent quality standards.

Operational Planning & Execution

  • Coordinate and oversee daily testing operations, ensuring alignment with client priorities and delivery commitments.
  • Establish daily productivity targets and monitor throughput to meet KPIs such as On-Time Delivery (OTD ≥ 95%).
  • Optimize lab scheduling, subcontractor coordination, and resource allocation to maximize efficiency.
  • Ensure accurate data entry into lab management systems and maintain real-time test progress tracking.
  • Manage equipment utilization and maintenance, including preventive and overhaul maintenance programs.
  • Support capital investment planning and procurement based on technical requirements and operational needs.

Process & Performance Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to enhance process efficiency, reduce lead times, and lower operational costs.
  • Lead or contribute to Lean, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize lab workflows.

Utilize performance data to drive informed decision-making and strategic improvements across the lab

Skills / Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field (preferred)Minimum 3–5 years of experience
  • in a production, laboratory, or NDT/X-ray environment
  • Proven leadership experience in a technical or production settingStrong understanding HSE practicesExcellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in digital lab systems and production planning toolsFamiliarity with Lean/5S methodologies is an asset.

Work Environment:

  • Industrial laboratory setting with exposure to X-ray equipment and radiation-controlled environments
  • Requires adherence to strict safety and regulatory procedures.
