Overview

Element is looking for an experienced Inorganic Support Specialist for our busy laboratory based in Deeside.  Your duties will include supporting the Inorganic Department Manager and team with sample analysis, troubleshooting and training. The role also requires undertaking method development and method validation in both the Inorganics and Metals labs, and the investigation of queries and non-conformances whist adhering to all quality aspects required in an accredited laboratory.

 

Element Deeside is the largest analytical chemistry laboratory within the Element Group and the market leading UK laboratory undertaking the testing of soils, waters, wastes, oils, NAPLs, ambient air, soil vapours and gases from all over the world.  The laboratory undertakes high volume routine analysis as well as offering bespoke method development, technical support and hydrocarbon forensic interpretations to enhance the support we can deliver.  The laboratory has an international reputation for service excellence and supports clients that require a higher level of technical expertise, reliability in data quality and seamless project management from sample collection to timely delivery of data in the format of choice.

Responsibilities

  • Work to ISO 17025 and MCERTS standards to the agreed quality requirements e.g. calibrations, AQC charts etc. are continually adhered to
  • Compliance with company health and safety requirements, adopting a proactive safety attitude to ensure the safety of self and others
  • Provide appropriate level of mentoring/training/support to analysts, trainee analysts and technicians in the Inorganics team ensuring that all work carried out complies with documented procedures and that samples are handled correctly
  • Aid team leaders/department manager with validation of new equipment and method development as and when required
  • Perform nonstandard and complex laboratory analysis as required in order to produce reliable and precise data
  • Perform and interpret analysis on environmental samples using analytical instrumentation
  • Monitor trends on AQC charts and raise with relevant personnel
  • Troubleshooting, using knowledge and experience to move investigations forward, identifying root cause and implement viable corrective actions
  • Aid laboratory team leaders and department manager with client investigations and non-conformances
  • Accurately record and analyse data, identify possible deviations
  • Perform routine instrument calibration and maintenance
  • Maintain a high standard of personal knowledge and skills relevant to role through self-directed learning

Skills / Qualifications

  • Scientific Degree or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years laboratory experience
  • Highliy motivated and organised individual that leads by example
  • A positive attitude
  • Effective communicator
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and adhere to deadlines
  • Good understanding of 5S, SQDC and E8 principals and able to communicate these to the wider team and support the leads in each area to implement change across the Inorganics department
