Overview

Element has an opportunity for an Senior Engineer / Project Manager to join our rapidly expanding team. As a member of the operations team, the Engineer position performs a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under minimal direct supervision.  The engineer position must be proficient in a number of core business and technical skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multiple site testing and structural investigation projects from project award through completion.
  • Plan and coordinate manpower, equipment, and testing schedules to meet project milestones.
  • Supervise Site Engineers, Supervisors, and Technicians to ensure efficient daily site operations.
  • Act as the primary liaison with clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Prepare technical proposals, methodologies, work plans, and cost estimates for structural investigation, condition assessment, and specialised testing projects.
  • Review tender documents and client requirements to develop technically sound and commercially competitive proposals.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, engineering reports, and testing requirements to determine appropriate investigation methodologies.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation measures to ensure timely delivery.
  • Ensure all site testing and structural investigation activities comply with project specifications, SAC accreditation requirements, company procedures, and relevant industry standards.
  • Review and approve testing reports, technical findings, and investigation reports before submission to clients.
  • Interpret investigation results and provide technical recommendations to clients and project stakeholders.
  • Monitor project costs, resource utilisation, productivity, and profitability.
  • Lead project meetings and provide regular progress updates to management and clients.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations.
  • Support business development by developing long-term client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and providing technical support during client discussions and presentations.
  • Mentor and develop Site Engineers and technical staff to strengthen technical and project management capabilities.

 

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in construction materials testing, structural investigation, forensic engineering, or civil infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience preparing technical proposals, investigation methodologies, and tender submissions for structural investigation or specialised engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of structural investigation techniques, non-destructive testing (NDT), concrete diagnostics, and construction materials testing.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary site teams and multiple concurrent projects.
  • Familiarity with SAC ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation requirements is an advantage.
  • Excellent technical writing, proposal preparation, and report-writing skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD; experience with project management software is an advantage.
  • Possession of a valid Class 3 driving licence.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to recommend practical engineering solutions.
