  • Overview

    Element has an opportunity for a Trainee Chemistry Technician to join the Chemistry and Corrosions testing team in Aberdeen.  As a result of planned growth and organisational re-structuring within the business, Element Materials Technology Limited has an opportunity for enthusiastic and talented individuals to join their team. Reporting to the departmental manager, this role will be responsible for conducting a variety of analytical metallurgical tests within the laboratory and at clients sites.

    Responsibilities

    • Booking work into the management information based computer system
    • Performing duties in accordance with Element internal procedures, quality and health and safety requirements
    • Performing laboratory based and on-site metallurgical analysis and testing to national and international standards
    • Ensuring that test results are recorded and reported accurately and correctly in accordance with laboratory procedures
    • Contributing to the improvement in the organization and efficiency of the workplace by implementing and maintaining agreed actions
    • Carry out other duties as reasonably requested by the Manager to support the needs of the business.
    • Undertake and complete satisfactorily any training as required
    • Working overtime as reasonably required

    Skills / Qualifications

    • GCSE / standard grade A-C in Mathematics and English is essential and a Chemistry or materials science qualification would be advantageous
    • Full UK driving license
    • Ability to obtain and record, in an accurate manner, measurements using appropriate instruments
    • Ability to input and extract information into standard software applications (e.g. word, excel, access and outlook)
    • Ability to communicate information with confidence, clarity and accuracy in both written and verbal forms
    • Ability to liaise with clients in a professional manner
    • Ability to read and interpret worksheets, engineering drawings etc
    • Ability to complete standard forms and records accurately and clearly
    • Ability to make a contribution to the evaluation and improvement of practices and processes within the department
    • Ability to work effectively with colleagues to deliver a service that exceeds expectations
    • Ability to work reliably and effectively with minimal supervision
    • Willingness to accept responsibility for their own work
    • Ability to identify problems and to seek appropriate assistance in their solution
