  • Overview

    Element has an opportunity for a Timber Consultant to join our growing team. This is a great opportunity to develop your career within a Global TIC business.



    • Responsible for inspecting the specification, condition and performance of wood products in service offsite
    • Key customers will include engineers, architects, building contractors, timber suppliers, heritage specialists, rail engineering companies, cooling tower operators and communication tower operators. You will be responsible for liaising directly with clients in these sectors
    • To work proactively with staff, managers and clients to provide a continuously improving service, while also maintaining fee earning levels
    • Provide advice to TRADA members and to other Advisory Line calls
    • Deal with enquiries and convert these into fee paid business whenever possible - First point of contact for customer/client enquiries
    • To undertake timber investigations, laboratory work, site inspection work and report on results as required
    • Gather relevant site base evidence from investigative work, from documentation and background information provide by others
    • Write professional reports as required
    • Deliver a range of CPD courses for individuals and organisations
    • Assist in maintaining and improving technical expertise within the section
    • Assist / take Junior members who are not sufficiently experience for on site inspections on their own
    • Work with Marketing in writing and producing technical and marketing literature in support of Timber Consultancy activities
    • To maintain a working knowledge of appropriate technical standards and requirements
    • Improve own expertise as ongoing part of the work
    • Ensuring that equipment (laboratory or tools) is maintained to ensure safety and quality is not compromised
    • Ensuring that tests are conducted in accordance with the requirements of the appropriate test standard and approved procedures

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Degree or must be qualified in a relevant discipline or working towards qualification
    • Knowledge of timber or timber related qualification
    • Demonstrates good understanding of BS and EU standards
    • Head for heights
    • Good written communication skills
    • Good oral communication skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Excel, Word, PowerPoint
    • Logical, methodical planning skills
    • Methodical approach to gathering evidence
    • Ability to explain technical terms / issues / concepts clearly to range of clients (from general public to contactors to professionals)
    • Ability to work under pressure and experience of meeting deadlines
    • Excellent time management skills
    • Flexibility / adaptability
    • Demonstrable experience in practical / technical subjects relating to the timber and / or the construction industry
