  • Overview

    Element has an opportunity for a new Internal Audit Manager - Information Technology based from our Shared Services Centre in Newbridge, Edinburgh. The aim of Element Internal Audit (EIA) is to be a flexible technology led / technology enabled audit and assurance capability that supports the business to manage risk, improve control and ultimately help to serve our customers.

     

    The purpose of this role is to support EIA to achieve that aim, by providing independent, objective assessment of the effectiveness of internal control, risk management practices, and corporate governance processes across all Element businesses and support functions, from an information technology perspective.

     

    The role will therefore work with the Group Internal Audit Director to establish and execute a rolling, risk based, audit programme covering Element’s IT landscape as part of that strategy. This requires a hands on approach, to plan, execute, deliver and report audits and reviews as directed by the Group Internal Audit Director. Wherever possible using Data Analytics and similar digital methods to plan, conduct, report and follow up.

    Responsibilities

    IT Audit and IT Risk

    • Execute the rolling risk based audit plans and take the lead in developing it going forward
    • Work with the Group Internal Audit Director, the Co-source team and engage the EVP Information Technology, Director of Data Science, IT Security Director and senior IT management in all aspects of planning and execution.
    • Build strong and collaborative relationships with IT based management as well as other senior managers across the group
    • Establish a clear view of the risks across the IT environment and assist IT management in the identification, updating and assessment of IT risks.
    • Identify where data and information can be used to assess risk and be integrated into audits including less data rich areas
    • Help the business develop insight into the root-causes and potential impact of audit issues using analytics
    • Work with other EIA members on project/programme assurance including new systems development
    • Develop and execute IT aspects of the proposed Laboratory Audit Programme
    • Develop knowledge and an approach to addressing risk and audit in Elements various lab based information and management systems (LIMS)
    • Conduct audits across the IT landscape such as ERP systems, Data Warehouse and related technologies, IT Resilience and Disaster Recovery.
    • Ability to deputise for the Audit Director on the IT Security Board and build working relationships with the Information Security Working Group.

    Internal Audit Execution

    • Work with the Internal Audit Manager – Data Analytics and the Co-source team to develop and implement continuous monitoring and assurance processes for IT areas
    • Execute internal audits and reviews using data analytics wherever possible from start to finish (this includes identification of risks, hypotheses to test, collaboration with management from terms of reference, through iterative fieldwork and visualisation based reporting)
    • Ensure that the audit coverage is adequate for the issuance of an overall opinion on internal controls and risk management practices to senior management
    • Support other Internal Audit colleagues in their audit responsibilities to consider IT controls, security and risk in their work
    • Participate or lead special projects / audits / reviews / investigations as directed by the Group Internal Audit Director
    • Monitor and follow up recommendations agreed with management arising from audits and reviews.

    Risk Management Framework

    • Support the Group Internal Audit Director in the ongoing development of the Element Risk Management Framework and when appropriate, in the review, selection, sourcing and implementation of risk management software for company wide use. This will fully involve all members of the Element Internal Audit team.
    • Identify key risk indicator information for key controls to enable more dynamic, up to date or real time view of Element’s risk profile in the IT, systems, data and security focus areas.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • There are no direct reports but the role will include supervising or working alongside management and technical staff from the co-source firm.

    Skills / Qualifications

    Qualifications/Education and/or Experience:

    • Demonstrated knowledge of IT internal audit, cyber security, risk management and control supported by a recognized Internal Audit qualification (CIIA, CIA), IT audit/security qualification (CISA, CISSP) and/or financial qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA)
    • Demonstrated strategic attitude and approach to the development and execution of IT auditing
    • Demonstrate broader knowledge of business and able to place IT in the wider business context.
    • Clear examples of a variety of IT audit areas including cyber security, systems development, change management, cloud computing, outsourced services, Data warehousing, Data Protection and relevant regulatory and standards exposure. (UK, EU and US standards)
    • Demonstrated experience of using a variety of tools to analyse IT controls such as cyber security
    • Experience with the data analytics cycle (data gathering, transformation, modeling, analytic execution, visualization and reporting)
    • Strong knowledge of IT governance and data governance practices.
    • Exposure to ERP systems. Knowledge of AX Dynamix, Navision, Dynamics 365 of interest
    • Strong understanding of auditing principles and techniques and excellent project management skills
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, familiarity with PC and common business software
    • Effective interaction / dealing with senior business management
