Overview

Element has an opportunity for an Ex Certification Engineer to join our rapidly expanding team. As a member of the certification team, our new Engineer will perform a variety of report and project file reviews to establish the safety of hazardous area products and factories, and also ordinary location equipment.

Our Certification Body at Element Skelmersdale undertakes test and assessment projects of explosion protected equipment (Ex Products) and ordinary location equipment. The products are assessed against the requirements of ATEX, IECEx and HAZLOC schemes such that the products are safe for use in a potentially explosive atmosphere, as well associated ordinary location safety schemes (principally the IECEE CB scheme).

 

Please note that although we are pausing our hiring activity due to the Covid 19 outbreak, we continue to conduct video and phone interviews to be prepared for a quick return to hiring in the near future.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and engineering leadership, and supports the development of new technologies within a local laboratory
  • Be accountable for accurate and timely release of certificates to customers including sign-offs of quality data as acceptable
  • Be expected to provide guidance in non-routine situation testing
  • Have the ability to oversee standard and/or routine technical problem solving activities
  • Interact with customers on technical issues and questions
  • Provide input and support on business development opportunities with new or existing customers
  • Be confident in making both formal and informal presentations on conventional and/or routine safety to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Assist in the professional development of junior engineers within the local certification team
  • Carry out crucial examination and implementation of testing concepts and data
  • Utilize an assortment of skill, methods, procedures and materials in advanced testing analysis
  • Be adept at drawing on internal knowledge as well as industry and/or academic resources in reaching testing conclusions

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree in a science or testing related field
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of:
    • IEC 60079 0 (General Requirements) and IEC 60079 1 (Flameproof); or:
    • IEC 60079 0 (General Requirements) and IEC 60079 11 (Intrinsic Safety)
    • Ordinary location safety standards, such as IEC 61010-1
  • Significant experience in an explosive atmosphere (Ex) test laboratory or in conducting Ex factory audits to ISO 80079-34
  • Experience reviewing assessment reports to the standards listed above
  • A high level of expertise related to scope, core theories, concepts, terminologies and boundaries of chosen engineering discipline
  • In-depth understanding of EX testing concepts
  • Ability to analyse and compile testing data from tests performed
  • Excellent IT literacy skills
  • High level of spoken and written English
