Overview

Element has an opportunity for an experienced Deputy General Manager to join our rapidly expanding product certification team in High Wycombe.


This is a great opportunity to develop your career within the Product Certification team of BM TRADA, providing certification to companies involved in the production and installations of products used in the construction industry. Reporting to the Business Unit Head you will work closely with the existing functional team heads in order to maximise the operational efficiency of the complete team whilst maintaining the highest levels of safety, quality and service.

 

Responsibilities

  • Support the General Manager in the management of the financial operations of the business unit ensuring financial objectives are delivered
  • Support the technical, operational and commercial leadership of the team
  • Ensure that operational and quality standards are being met and maintained at all times against accreditation and the company standards
  • Responsible for the safety performance and awareness; spearheads and manages initiatives that drive a culture of safety first
  • Responsible for the operational performance, utilising 5S and SQDC to drive and maintain a culture of Operational Excellence
  • Drives customer focus and ensures communication with customers is maintained during operational delivery
  • Provides direction within the department to ensure that operational goals and customer expectations are consistently met in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner
  • Demonstrates deep knowledge of Element capabilities, processes and expertise to be able to clearly explain the benefits of Element’s services to all audiences -- internal and external
  • Under the direction of the General Manager, is responsible for directing, coordinating, facilitating and monitoring the daily activities of colleagues
  • Accountable for department personnel including recruitment, performance reviews, absence management and disciplinary in conjunction with HR
  • Maintain an environment of respect and dignity within the site covering colleague interactions and problem-solving while ensuring work rules are known and followed
  • Consult on Element’s services requested by the client and provide alternatives and "up" selling with the various add on capabilities
  • Advise team on issues concerning the successful and timely completion of daily work, facilitating problem-solving when required
  • Serves as a key member of and contributor to, the department’s leadership team in the development and implementation of the department's strategic direction
  • Key contributor in terms of establishing priorities and allocating resources to ensure that the department runs smoothly and efficiently
  • Works effectively with all colleagues to develop and maintain positive employee relations
  • To always operate under Element’s Purpose, Mission, Vision and Values
  • To work under all Element’s policies procedures and standards

Skills / Qualifications

  • A degree in an engineering or technical-related discipline, experience in a management role ideally with operations management experience gained in an accelerated-growth organization
  • Experience of managing a P&L in a £5m+ customer facing commercial role
  • Working knowledge of managing site safety with knowledge of the current suite of audit services
  • A knowledge of factory production control process, certification activities and British & European product standards would be an advantage.
  • Proven ability to support and train staff members for the department to meet customers’ expectations
  • Strong computer skills with basic mathematical skills
  • Technical and commercial leadership is vital to the production and operation of assigned tests
  • Ability to communicate (written and oral) effectively with clients and colleagues with great attention to detail and timing of results
  • Proven ability to multitask and work under strict timelines
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to effectively establish and maintain two-way communications to understand the needs and concerns of all departments and customers
  • Understanding of continuous improvement disciplines such as Six Sigma, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, etc.
  • Strong project management, analytical and problem-solving skills provide go-to insight into the daily efficient operations
  • Proven track record of success concerning technical competency
