IT Application & Support Engineer

Element has an opportunity for an experienced IT Application & Support Engineer to join our regional IT team to provide systems and IT hardware support to laboratories in the Aerospace & Connected Technologies Business Unit. 



The successful candidate will play a key role in the implementation, support and maintenance of the various operational systems required to run laboratories, both in the UK and throughout Europe and whilst developing an understanding of the business the right person will:

  • Use business knowledge to identify improvements to current processes and evaluate technology solutions to business needs
  • Specify problem definition and define scope and objectives in relation to the business requirements
  • Provide technical support related to network hardware, systems and software faults to a range of the company’s sites & labs
  • Take ownership of users’ issues and identify appropriate solutions to resolve service incidents and requests
  • Work closely with the wider IT support team to provide support, ensuring assigned calls are responded to, diagnosed, and resolved swiftly
  • Communicate effectively with technical, business, operations and support audiences and use specialist knowledge to engage them appropriately
  • Perform testing and validation of systems
  • Develop peer networks internally and externally to keep up to date on the business and current industry standards

Skills / Qualifications

For this role we are looking for a combination of skills and qualifications: 

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a Computer Science / Engineering
  • Experience in an application support or technical systems analyst role
  • Software application support experience (e.g. .NET, C#, VB)
  • Experience of supporting diverse global applications in across geographies
  • Experience of database structures and a working knowledge of MS SQL and MS Access
  • Experience of networking and setting up data extraction from instruments
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications (SharePoint, Office 365, PowerApps)
  • A working knowledge of a wide variety of IT hardware e.g. desktops, laptops, tablets
  • A basic understanding of structured cabling, networks, and Wi-Fi connectivity e.g. routers, switches and wireless
  • Ability to deal with change and the demands associated with responding to competing priorities
