Element has an opportunity for a European General Ledger Accountant to join our experienced team. This role will be inititally a fixed term contract for up to 18 months. It is a really exciting time to join Element as we expand our global shared service operations in Edinburgh.


In this role you will be responsible for month-end management accounts preparation and inter-company accounting for group companies and support the planning, budgeting and forecasting processes for European central functions.



  • Upload of P&Ls; Working capital and aged debtors information into group 
  • Review and posting of accruals & prepayments and reporting systems and ensuring reconciliation to GL
  • Prepare & review month end reconciliations and investigate and resolve any issues
  • Capital projects approval tracking and expenditure reporting
  • Provide support to Finance Manager, Group Tax Manager & UK labs on VAT / statutory reporting as required
  • Provide monthly reporting and analysis to sector businesses and labs as required
  • Provide KPI monitoring and reporting for the Reporting team
  • Support of internal / external audit processes & ensure an effective control environment

Skills / Qualifications

As an Accountant you will need to have: 

  • Degree / professional qualification in accounting or candidates who are qualified by experience will be considered
  • Experience of working in a similar position
  • Experience with Navision / Dynamics AX experience desirable (although training will be provided)
  • European accounting experience desirable
  • European Language speaking capabilities desirable (French and/or German)

  • Be able to work on own initiative and be proactive
  • Ability to challenge and question accounting treatments
  • Attention to detail eg: able to evidence dealing with complex transactions
