Element has an opportunity for a Machinist. In this role you will be a member of the operations team in one of the various laboratories across Element, the Machining position performs a variety of routine and non-routine machining assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under direct supervision.  The technician positions must be proficient in a number of core business skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures



  • Use cutting equipment to prepare specimens for testing as dictated in customer specifications
  • Perform a variey of machining tasks according to customer specifications and requirements
  • Requires little supervision and technical input of a Department Manager, Principal Machinist, Project Coordinator or Engineer
  • Maintain equipment and schedules preventative maintenance
  • Gather and record dimensions in accordance with quality assurance requirements
  • Understand what must be completed each work day and takes the initiative to complete those tasks properly and timely
  • Hold team members and peer machinists accountable for machining requirements
  • Use blueprints and design sketches to ensure the proper dimensions and tolerance levels of the finished product
  • Perform complex machining and to work alone the majority of the work day; only requesting assistance for clarification or confirmation of machining procedures
  • Ensures timely and accurate results with little or no supervision and technical input

Skills / Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of laboratory safety
  • Diploma or GED certificate preferred with college or vocational school coursework welcomed
  • Associate degree in related testing or science field or mechanical related field and / or 6-12 months’ experience in a machining shop environment
  • In-depth understanding of specimen preparation and related to machining concepts, measuring instruments and dimensional concepts
  • Working knowledge of machine shop safety protocol
  • Strong computer skills and basic mathematical skills with ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry a plus
  • Ability to lift <50 lbs. often and >50 lbs. on occasion and stand on feet for long periods of time
  • Proven ability to effectively manage time and practices accountability for the machining to be performed
  • Advanced ability to read and understand customer specifications and perform the machining required
  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the machining field, CNC programming knowledge is wellcome
  • Advanced skills in machining protocol in accordance with customer specifications
  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot equipment
